THE WAR ON DRUGS
Kovacs & the Polar Bear
Tuesday, September 14th @ The Grey Eagle
$8
Tickets available SOON @ Harvest, Orbit DVD, Static Age, Grey Eagle & online HERE.

The War On Drugs have a superb, memorable, attention-grabbing name that says nothing and everything about what they do. It has contemporary resonance while also placing the Philly five-piece in a continuum of American outsider-gang bands. And although none of their songs appear to address narcotics or the problems they create, there is a blend going on here of rootsy traditionalism and modern instrumental experimentation - with a militant urgency - that makes the War On Drugs the perfect moniker.

The wheezing harmonica and rat-a-tat drums, the needling guitars, swirling organ and nasal drone - we've heard these before a couple of times. The War On Drugs are certainly rooted in the 60s and 70s, and obviously comparable to Dylan and Springsteen with their linear narratives and tumble of imagistic language. But the blur of guitar-bass-drums is given a sort of space-rock sheen, a production shimmer, as though My Bloody Valentine or Brian Eno have been messing with the studio controls.

LOCAL NATIVES
Ruby Suns
The Union Line
Saturday, October 16 @ The Grey Eagle
$12
Tickets available NOW @ Harvest, Orbit DVD, Static Age, Grey Eagle & online HERE.

Local Natives (formerly known as Cavil at Rest) is an indie rock band based in Silver Lake,Los Angeles, USA. Their debut album, Gorilla Manor, was first released in the UK in November 2009, and later released in the US on February 16, 2010. The album received mostly positive reviews and debuted in the Billboard 200 and at #3 in the New Artist Chart. Their sound has been described as "afropop-influenced guitars with hyperactive drumming and hooky three-part harmonies." Clash Music has also described their style as psych-folk, or modern worldly folk. They started to attract the attention of the music press after playing nine shows at the 2009 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Initial reviews of Local Natives have drawn favourable comparisons to Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend.

RECORD STORE DAY 2010
THIS SATURDAY, April 17th, 2010
OPENING @ 10am SHARP

Harvest will be participating in the 3rd annual "Record Store Day" in a major way this year...

First & foremost, there are literally almost 200 different exclusive & very limited releases, only available in indie stores on Saturday -- on any format imaginable (LP, CD, 7", DVD, book...)
Examples include Modest Mouse's "The Moon & Antarctica" reissued on LP, Flaming Lips doing "Dark Side of the Moon" on limited vinyl, Budos Band & Sharon Jones splitting a 7", Bon Iver & Peter Gabriel covering each other, and on and on and on...

We will also be providing you folks with some major freebie action. Not only will the first customers of the day receive a free bag'o'swag with all sorts of interesting nuggets, and not only will we have some treats to snack on while flippin' thru the stacks, BUT we will be giving away free raffle prizes including a
"Beatles In Mono" 13-disc limited box set (retail price = $274.99!!!)...

And of course, the cherry on top is (most likely outdoors) live performances by:

truckers

DRIVE BY TRUCKERS
(2:30pm)

and

slim

LANGHORNE SLIM
(2:00pm)

As of my typing right now, it looks like the weather should permit these performances outdoors; however, if it is too rainy on Saturday, we WILL host these INSIDE THE SHOP. So get here early no matter what!

Both artists are scheduled to sign autographs following their performances, fyi.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!
Can't wait to see you guys on Saturday, bright & early!!

Elephant Micah is music by southern Indiana based singer and sound recordist Joseph O'Connell. Taking cues from 1970s songcraft (Townes Van Zandt, Joni Mitchell) as well as midwestern lo-fi rock (Guided by Voices), Elephant Micah has gradually built a cult audience over a decade of do-it-yourself releases and tours.

Echoer's Intent is the first Elephant Micah album to fully foreground O'Connell as a writer and solo performer. These minimal, mostly live recordings often approximate more "traditional" blues or Appalachian stylings. In the same breath, O'Connell takes up imitation and authenticty as his central lyrical themes, producing an album that is both a critique and an example of what can only be termed folksploitation.

This spring, O'Connell embarks on a nine-week tour coinciding with the release of Echoer's Intent.

Please watch & listen to E.M. HERE and THEN if you don't want to see him live, well..... goodness gracious.....
